Collboni is a member of the Partit dels Socialistes de Catalunya (PSC), the Catalan Socialist Party. He has been a member of the Barcelona City Council since 2015 and has served as deputy mayor since 2019.
Collboni's election as mayor is a significant victory for the PSC, which has been out of power in Barcelona since 2015. The PSC is the largest party on the Barcelona City Council, but it does not have a majority. Collboni will need to rely on the support of other parties to pass his agenda.
